Major for future

It has been 3 years since I walked over the gate of high school to become a freshmen. Roughly 3 years have went by and I’m a junior almost a senior now. Over 3 years, my college and major wishes have changed overtime. Finally, I have or may have found a major that suits me, psychology, a doctor that treats mental disorder.
My stories of how I got to this choice is a deep and long story. We all know that modern world is a busy place, everthing keeps changing and moving, including us. We must run for our lives and beat this “competition”. What’s the consequence of this? Stress. Mental disorder is a real epidemic in 21st century. It is hard to treat without a professional psychologist and proper medicine. People often be in “depressed” mode, especially students and workers. So, I hope that I can be the change, I can be a persone that somepeople or maybe my future clients to share their saddest stories

Clash of Clans’ Brother: Clash Royale

Throw back to 2012, when Clash of Clans was released by Supercell, it became a huge phenomenon for young players. Kids in every age play it, even adults. After that huge success that came from Supercell, we thought or I though there will hardly be another game come from Supercell that makes a huge success like Clash of Clans until, Clash Royale.

Clash Royale was released on January 4th, 2016. Clash Royale is a real time multiplayer game, which means you compete with other players around the world at the same time. Clash Royale is a strategy game type, we use decks or cards to take down enemy’s tower.my-current-deck

Let’s get familiar with this game by knowing these basic concepts. We have 3 towers: King’s tower and 2 arena towers. When we take down 1 arena tower, it counts as 1. But, if you take the King’s tower down, it counts as three. Apparently, it is not easy to take those tower down. You start off with 8 cards per deck and you must combine your troops efficiently. An important strategy for this game is you have to balance your Elixir (kind of like the money to buy troops). In a game, you only have max of 10 elixir and they will refill gradually. You don’t want to spend those elixir at once because you don’t have anything left to defend your tower if your attack failed. Basic troops of the game are: Barbarians, Archers, Baby Dragon, Giant, etc… Each troops has different Elixir price like 4, 5 ,7. You have to smart in order to beat other players.

This game is a must for 2016, I encourage you to try this game. It’s super entertaining, but sometimes it also frustrating. You can compete with you friends or other player around the world. So, join me and try this game. We may become rivals in the future.

Weekend

A lot of thoughts went through my mind when I read this poem. It reminded me of a special girl who went through my life once but not anymore. Not that she moved somewhere else, I still can see her everyday but we no longer be together like we used to be. I think if people who were deeply in love with each other once, then they will hardly be friends after they broke up. I read a comment of an anonymous on Facebook and I think it makes sense. After a broke up, if those two people still can be friends, either they never really loved each other or they are still in love with each other

Frank Solanki

My mind’s playing tricks on me
I see your face everywhere I go
There’s nothing else that I can see
There’s something wrong and I wanna know
There’s something wrong and I wanna know now

Your glowing snow white skin I find
Is just second best to none
You’ve completely ruined my mind
Like no girl has ever done
And I just don’t know how

There’s something wrong and I wanna know now
But I just don’t know how

There’s something wrong and I wanna know
But I just don’t know…

Race Relations in America

What do you think the term United State stands for? When I asked some of my friends, the majority answers I received were people unite in America and help to grow this country. They were right, but that was just a small piece in a whole picture. United Nations means many people from different races and ethnicity join together in America and help to build this country. But, today is a result of difficult process in the past, it includes blood, sweat and lives in order for the future generations to be equal and cooperate with each others.

Let’s take a few steps back to the civil war, the battle between North and South or also known as against slavery and support slavery. The main leader for the south was also our fourth POTUS, Abraham Lincoln. The result of the war were 13th, 14th and 15th were ratified. These Amendments provide black right to vote, no more slavery, etc… Let’s get to a little bit nearer, President FDR ended segregation in the military and MLK tried to end racism. There were many effort in the past to end racism, many had success and some had failed, but something is always better than nothing.

Racism is still here today but it has been subsided. We now have a first black President. Black  earned the same rights as White. People from different countries go to school together and help each other out. Asian, African or American are all the son and daughter of Mother Nature. “United we stand. Divided we fall”

HISTORY REFLECTION

Many changes took place after soldier came back from WW2. Baby Booming, The growth of the industry: Car, household appliances, change in the culture. There were more entertainment for people. Many comedies were created, Jazz started to emerge, etc… The economy profited from these categories. Cars began to appear in many families, it started to become normal for a family to have 2 cars. Women mostly stayed home and do chore.

There is a big difference between the culture in 1950 and 2016. We have a good foundation or a good base to start with. Different kind of musics like pop, EDM, rap, etc… make an impact on teenagers. Cars look a lot fancier and more expensive. Women and men now have the same role, the concept that women must stay home and men go to work is no longer exist

Starting Fresh

I’m a bilingual or also known as the Fob. What is this mean? According to Wikipedia or Google, this means a person who came from another country. Sounds really formal, right? But actually it is more than just came from another country, it is rebirth. As a newcomer, everything will be set to zero or nothing, no English, no friend or even worse no money. Not everyone can handle this huge change in their lives, you move to another country, you have to speak another language and even the food is different. You are on your own, either you survive it or you give up. Personally, my first 6 months in U.S are horrible. Eventually, times will heal everything, even the deepest wound. After 3 years over here, I have some few tips that might help you to get over this emotion broke down.

Tip 1: Be confident and willing to learn new things.

Trust me, shy is not a really good option. No one will notice a guy/girl who sits in a corner with their eyes on the screen. Since we are new, we must have the willingness to participate or interact with people around us. This method will not only just helped you to learn new things but you will eventually ended with some new friends.

Tip 2: While people are partying, we study.

What makes a fob attractive? Straight A report cards and 4.0 GPA. Admit it, we all have some friends that is really smart and these people always make us admire them but also jealous with them. As a newcomer, we could take that envy to a whole new level, people will start to question that why English is not our mother tongue but we still have the report that many people dream of? Well, don’t underestimate us or you will regret

Tip 3: Join or play a sport.

Best way to make friends, I promise. Joining a sport not only help you to build your strength but it also boost your fame. I mean, in a good way. You will easily to make some friends in this situation, go to a basketball court and look around for that guy or girl who is shooting around alone and ask to join. You might found your other half, too.

These tips are not guaranteed to work all the time but they should work out in some ways if you know how to stay positive. Hope these tips useful for you.

President Obama’s foreign policies

The foreign policy of president Obama is called Obama Biden Plan. This policy was created by President Obama and Joe Biden in order to renew the America’s security. The Obama-Biden foreign policy will end the war in Iraq responsibly, finish the fight against the Taliban and al Qaeda in Afghanistan, secure nuclear weapons and loose nuclear materials from terrorists. Renew American diplomacy to support strong alliances and to seek a lasting peace in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.Obama and Biden will always maintain a strong deterrent as long as nuclear weapons exist. But they will take several steps down the long road toward eliminating nuclear weapons. President Obama has put in a lot of effort to help our economy to growth and it works. Reduced the rate of criminals, less unemployed workers, etc… I’m looking forward for our next president to do the exact things as President Obama

Happy Lunar New Year

If you do not know, this is the year of the Monkey. Lunar New Year is based Chinese’s calendar. It’s included 12 animals represent for 12 zodiacs, each one will take place in one year and will be repeated after 12 years cycle. 12 animals on the calendar are: mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, chicken, dog and pig. Asian people believe that your characteristics are influenced by these animals.

Lunar New Year is a really special to Asian people. They believe that the rest of the year will be determined by how you act on the first three days of new year. They avoid to talk about death or unlucky things like losing money, scam, etc… If you are Vietnamese, you will know that we avoid to clean the house on the first day because we can accidentally chase away good luck or money. By the way, in Vietnam, Lunar New Year also known as “Tet”.

The first thing you will see if you walk into an Asian family on the last day of the year is a table full of delicious food, smoke comes out of the incense and maybe some new year music in different languages. My family, we have a ritual that we usually to go to temple on the last day because we want to show our appreciation to the because Buddha has guided us safely through one year.

Do this if you have a chance. Walk up to any Asian kids and ask “What is the best thing of Lunar New Year?” 100% that the answers will be “Red Envelope”. In Vietnam, we called it “Li Xi”. It is the red envelope with lucky money inside. The meaning of this because it represents lucky and wishes given from the elder. But, you won’t get one if you don’t wish your parents or whoever is giving to you nice thing back. We put the money inside the back because we don’t want them to know the amount of money, because it’s all about the luck not greediness.

I want to wish whoever is reading this Happy New Year or “Chuc mung nam moi” (this is viet)

Modern Slavery

Since the world started to change drastically and fully developed, there are many endless battles started such as: poverty, war, slavery, etc… Despite what history class you are in right now, slavery has been there for a long period of time.

When you look at slaves, all you can see is their dirty, full of dust appearance. But can you really see how enormous their contribution to the modern world. Slaves they don’t have a choice like us, some of them were tricked to be a slave or were sold to be a slave. If you google the term “Slavery”, you will see all kind of stories from people all around the world, whether they escaped or they witnessed slavery.

When people were called slave, they won’t be treated as a human beings. They will be treated like animals, property, etc…The book “Frederick Douglass: An American Slave” gave us detailed proofs about slavery back in the 1800s. African American back then did not have a choice to choose between to be freed or to be slave. Back then, the society shared the same conception that, if you are colored skin then you will be considered a slave. “Every things depended on the looks of the horse. If a horse did not move fast enough, or hold his head high enough, it was owing to some fault of his keepers.”Some of the slave-holders, they were even considered their pets or animals higher than slaves. When people were considered as slaves, they will be property or a tool to use to work and make money. Their lives only have one purpose is to work.

American slavery or Viet slavery, there is no different. In Vietnam, children are the target for slave-holders. They choose children because they are weak and easy to control. Slave-holders will come to the small villages in Vietnam and offer parents to let their children to work far away from home with high salary. Because those villages are small and people in their are poor, so they are really delighted and agree. But they don’t know that they were fooled in front of their eyes and might not see their children again. Like Hien in the article, he was trafficked from Vietnam and was forced to work in the cannabis field. They don’t get pay as they were promised. From that moment, they know that they were wrong.

Slavery has changed overtime. People now, they do have a choice, they still have a life before slavery. Money and promises covered their eyes, so it is hard to know if it’s a scam or not. But slavery stills remained slavery, this is the war that will be around for a long period of times.

Kobe Bryant: Legacy of greatness

“Kobe Bryant is retiring”, “Kobe Bryant will retire in the end of 2015-2016 season”, etc… I bet you will see one of these headlines no matter what social medias you are on. Yes, this news shocked the world especially the fans of the purple and gold warrior with number 24 jersey, Kobe Bryant. After 20 season with the Lakers, Kobe decided to end his journey. As a fan of number 24, I’m truly sad but also happy for him.

Even though, he stops his journey but his legacy continue to pass on. He left so much thing behind whether it is on-court or off-court. This blog i will focus on 1 thing: Kobe Bryant, The Black Mamba

August 23, 1978 was the day that one of the greatest was born. In his early life in Lower Merion High School, he was a dominant scorer. With a high SAT score, he decided to go straight to NBA. He was drafted by the Charlotte Hornet and then was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, this is where legend started.

Kobe has such career with the Lakers and he is pretty loyal to his team the Lakers . He is only player that has most season played with one franchise for 20 years. He carried the team and won three consecutive championships from 2000 to 2003. Did I mention that he was the youngest NBA player to win the Slam Dunk contest?

Kobe’s career was derailed when a woman sued him for sexual harassment while he was in Denver for a knee surgery. His reputation went down, McDonald’s dropped his endorsement contract and he had to pull out the 2003 Olympic. The case was dropped after the victim refused to testify anf Kobe issued public apology her.

A problem can’t hold the legend down forever. January 22, 2006, Kobe made history. Lakers matched up with Toronto Raptor and Kobe dropped 81 POINTS to beat the Raptors. 81 POINTS, this is the second highest score after Wilt Chamberlain 100 points in 1962. The streak goes on, Kobe helped the Lakers to reach two more consecutive championship in 2009- 2010 on his own without Shaquille.

the_legend_of_kobe_bryant_by_jeffreyliang-d5med25The Championship in 2010 is the final glory moment of Kobe because the star started to lose its light. Age is a huge problem, no matter how great Kobe is, he is still a human. After the Achilles Torn in 2012-2013 season, his career started to go down hill. He was out for for the season but when he came back the Lakers aren’t the same anymore, so is he. His stats became faltering: 22.3 ppg, 5.6 apg. Till now, nothing much have changed since last year, this is a sign for a legend to turn his page.

Beside a successful career, he also has a great signature shoe line, just like Michael Jordan. Before received a contract with Nike, Kobe had a history with Adidas, but soon he stopped the contract. Kobe became a free agent in the next season, which means he has a variety of options of shoes to wear while playing. After signing a contract with Nike, he did not have a official signature shoe right away instead he had to wear the Nike Huarache to play. He had to wait until the third season with Nike to have his signature shoe.

There are a lot of excuses for us to make when we want to skip works or schools just to watch him play, this is not recommended. I, personally, it’s excited for me to watch him play even if he is in his prime or not. There is something can’t be explained by words. The way he shoots, how he runs the team and even his air-balls are fun to watch too. Recently, when he announced his retirement, the crowd went wild wherever he comes. The crowd yelling, even though I just watched through TV but those cheering buzzed through my ears.

Kobe, number 24, Black Mamba, etc… He has a lot of names to be called and to be remembered. He has contributed a lot to the NBA, basketball won’t be the same without his mentality. What comes will come, it has been a long journey for a warrior who fight with all his will and power. Now, he deserves to take a rest and clear the path for younger generations to raise.
